Over the weekend I worked on creating some templates to enable Adobe Photoshop Album to generate web photo albums that would macth fudaserve.net's style. It was rather easy. The next step was to figure out how to make the photo album page not have to reload everytime someone chose a new category of photos to view. Thanks again to dynamicdrive.com and iframes/, I was able to accomplish this and now have a page that will expand and contract its height to accomidate the currently viewed album without having to reload everything - should make viewing the photo album a much faster-loading experience.

The photo and video album now contains over 600 items.
I used a combination of the gallery remote tool and the publish xp tool to add new photos. The remote tool really let me down one time, though. I submitted nearly 200 items at once using it without any issues. Later, I went to submit about 450 items, and it crashed on the 58th item! It then lost all the files I had arranged in albums. Fortuneately, this loss was isolated and only affected the remote tool - not the actual photos on my PC :) , but about 45 minutes orth of organizing photos went down the drain.
I went back and added about 150 of the photos that did not get uploaded using the publish xp tool and it worked pretty well. The only bad thing is that you can only publish to one album at a time. Gallery also gives you more resize options than publish xp does.

I re-added the videos from the old site to this new one, and re-named the gallery link to "Photo & video Gallery." I also installed some Gallery 2 modules that facilitate the use of videos and the creation of thumbnails (except for newer wmv files).
I also found a couple of great front end utilities that will enable us to add photos and videos to Gallery 2 rather easily.
- One module integrates with Window XP's publish to the web feature. Just select the media files you want to post to gallery, slect "publish to the web" and follow the prompts. You can place the files in whatever album you want and are offered a few other options as well.
- The other module is a java application that gives you even more options. It runs on your desktop and lets you upload pictures in batches to multiple folders. It also resizes the pics, if you want, so no more uploading 4 megapixel files :)
It's much more powerful than the Window's XP utility - but a little more work to use. We'll probably use the XP utility for small batches and the Java appliation for large batches. Considering that only about 1% of our photos are currently publlished to Gallery 2, we've got a lot of publishing to do and the Java utility should get a good workout!
