Accessing the Service Menu in a Panasonic PT50LC13 TV
Written By: John Fuda

I've figured out how to get into the service menu, the procedures almost like the one for the 40LC12:

There are two different service menus. The first one is called
"factory adjust mode". You enter it from a powered on state by holding down the VOLUME DOWN button on the set itself and the RECALL key on the remote for five seconds. Apparently to get out of this you turn the set off.

To get to the actual service menu, when in the above mode, you hold down
the VOLUME DOWN button on the set itself and the SWAP key on the remote for five seconds. To get out of this mode back to the previous
state you hit RECALL on the remote.

At this point a screen like the user adjust menu appears which has various
submenus. One is called Video Adjust or something similar. That is where I made my tweaks to get rid of red and purple push.
The only difference is that, for the second step, you push the MOVE button instead of the SWAP button.

Added some videos and updated the gallery

I re-added the videos from the old site to this new one, and re-named the gallery link to "Photo & video Gallery." I also installed some Gallery 2 modules that facilitate the use of videos and the creation of thumbnails (except for newer wmv files).

I also found a couple of great front end utilities that will enable us to add photos and videos to Gallery 2 rather easily.

- One module integrates with Window XP's publish to the web feature. Just select the media files you want to post to gallery, slect "publish to the web" and follow the prompts. You can place the files in whatever album you want and are offered a few other options as well.

- The other module is a java application that gives you even more options. It runs on your desktop and lets you upload pictures in batches to multiple folders. It also resizes the pics, if you want, so no more uploading 4 megapixel files :)
It's much more powerful than the Window's XP utility - but a little more work to use. We'll probably use the XP utility for small batches and the Java appliation for large batches. Considering that only about 1% of our photos are currently publlished to Gallery 2, we've got a lot of publishing to do and the Java utility should get a good workout!

Added Video Gallery

This morning I created a video gallery. The gallery contains videos in swf (Flash) format, along with the option to download the video files in their native form, in case you do not have Flash installed.

Turning my raw avi's into flash was very easy using Flash MX 2004 and a video controls extension. I simply created a new document, imported the avi to the stage, added the controls extension, adjusted a few properties to make everything the right size, did some centering, and saved the file.

Dreamweaver does an excellent job of putting the Flash code right into the web page, including a little routine that checks if your browser is Flash-capable and takes appropriate action.

Hopefully this approach will work well. We'l see how the page loads once multiple movies exist on it...

BeaTunes for iTunes

I've been trying to figure out how to determine the beats per minute for music I play on my iPod. I don't have the abundance of time available to sit and count out every beat and manually edit each song, so I needed some software to do it.

I found BeaTunes and gave it a try.

It will analyze and determine the BPM for any song that can be played in QuickTime (no copy protected stuf

Gigabyte GV-N66256DP + Pure Video = WOW!

I've been using an old ATI Radeon 7500 and PowerDVD5 Codecs for playback via DVDLobby/ZoomPlayer for just about a year. I've always had some performance issues with this setup on my Athlon XP 2600+ 1GB RAM system.

When ZoomPlayer played video, it consumed about 80% of my processor on average (per windows performance monitor ran on a networked PC) and often
